Bouts

There will be a central location for the main fights and spectators. You'll show up, pick the people you want to fight and the conditions of the bout, and schedule time in the main ring. We hope that in three days everyone will have a chance to bout with everyone else, and watch other bouts. All weapon styles, armoured or unarmoured (within reason) are welcome. Think of this as a renaissance prize playing.

At the end of the weekend, all the fighters will assemble together and vote on who amongst them stood out as the best, by whatever criteria each person chooses to evaluate by will receive a token of that respect.

You can use any weapon you want. Yes, really! If you want to fight with a cavalry sabre, and your opponent wants to fight in armour with a longsword, great! We expect all competitors to own or borrow, and use, safety gear in keeping with the guidelines.

We will be more than happy to advise on what might be appropriate for a given bout, if you are unsure. If we think you are unsafe, we will say so before they bout, but the final decision, and responsibility, is between you and your opponent.

We do, however, expect all bouts to held with an eye towards friendly competition. If we think two people are getting heated and out of control, the bout will be stopped, and the conditions will be revised.

Fighters

We are inviting a wide spectrum of martial artists. SCA heavy fighters, rapier fighters, stick fighters, classical fencers, and Asian martial artists. If we know of the fighter, and they have a reputation that has reached our little corner of the world, we are trying to invite them.

That said, we don’t know everyone, and not everyone will be able to make it. If you know someone who absolutely should be invited, let us know! We will have a limited amount of personal invitations reserved for such people, and we will be happy to send them. We are also extending a limited number of invitations to select schools and groups, and we welcome them to choose amongst themselves a few fighters to represent their whole school.
