The Archery Program
Once you have graduated to the first level through our Introductory Workshop you are ready to enter into our ongoing archery program. Here you will deepen your knowledge and ability in the art through a series of progressive levels.
Class Time and Format
Ongoing archery classes take place on Sunday nights from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The first hour of each class is focused on history, technique, and theory. The second hour is focused on shooting, coaching, and practical skill development specific to your rank.
The Ranks
Green Cord – Novice
Weapon: Recurve bow
Theory: introductory history of recurve, muscle memory, three finger draw technique, Ygrip, range safety.
Green Cord should take between six months to a year to complete.
Blue Cord – Anchor
Weapon: Recurve bow, Longbow
Theory: further muscle memory and stretching training, two finger draw technique,
longbow stance, timing, aiming technique, the three draws, beginner Archery Marshal responsibilities, arrow production.
Blue Cord should take between eight months to a year to complete
Red Cord – Mainward
Weapons: Recurve bow, Longbow, Composite Bow
Theory: English Archers comparative to horse archers, the bow in war; East & West,
archer’s equipment, the composite bow and the thumb draw, beginning of longbow
construction.
Red Cord should take between one year to one and a half years to complete.
