The last day of Carosella is always special, as the competition is the culmination of the weekend's -- and the year's -- work in the Mounted Combat Program. This Sunday was even more special as we had our first cohort of apprentices challenge the scholar level of our program, the Blue Spur.
For the Blue Spur, students need to demonstrate proficiency with long sword, side sword, and spear from the ground. They need to demonstrate that they can care for and present a well-turned out horse, on which they perform a riding test at all gaits with jumping, stirrupless riding, and mounted games skills. And they need to spar against all comers from horseback.
It's an imposing set of skills, which is why we offer double, treble, and quadruple congratulations to our pioneering Blue Spur scholars: Karissa King, Christian Deron, and Chris Richardson.

With Carosella over, now is the best time to dive into the Mounted Combat Program. The horses are fit and mellow, the weather's just right, and you'll have a whole year to get ready for Carosella 2018! If you are new to horses, start with Beginner Riding & Horsemanship; if you are new to swordplay begin with Mounted Combat Fundamentals.
