Mounted Sparring

Friday 14 August, 6 - 7:30pm
Instructor: Devon Boorman
Prerequisite: Green Spur or permission from instructor

Engage in drills to improve your technique and accuracy, then take those skills to slow work and full speed mounted longsword sparring under the guidance of our Maestro d’Armi, Devon Boorman. Get the edge for the Green Spur Tournament at Carosella!

Mounted Games

Friday 21 August
Instructor: Kate Landels
Prerequisite: Riding Level 1 or equivalent

Work on speed and accuracy with Prince Phillip Games Master rider Kate Landels. In this one and a half hour session you will learn tricks of the trade for better pickups, hand-offs, targetting, mounting and dismounting, and will also have a chance to practice the mounted games featured in our playdays and tournaments. Up your game for Carosella!

Classical Riding

Friday 28 August, 6:00 – 7:30pm
Instructor: Veli Leväaho
Prerequisite: Riding Level 1 or equivalent

The second of two clinics with Veli Leväaho of Leväaho Classical Horsemanship. Work on your aids, your seat, and your horse’s responsiveness.

Dressage

Dressage is the basis for all riding, and Mounted Combat is no exception. In this one and a half hour session EC Level 1 coach Stephanie Laversin will help you hone your half-halts, achieve better bend, and sharpen your lateral work with an eye to the movements most useful for combat.

Preparing for Carosella

If the above clinics aren't enough to get you ready for Carosella 2015, there are still a few spaces in select classes where you can bump up your riding and mounted combat skills. There is one space left in Beginner Riding and Horsemanship, two spaces in Riding & Horsemanship Level 2, and three spaces in the Mounted Combat classes. All of these happen on Sundays between now and Carosella, and it's not too late to catch up in any of them. Online registration is closed, but you can register by calling 604 568 9907 or visiting our downtown location during store hours.

Jennifer Landels heads up Academie Duello's Cavaliere Program. She has been swordfighting since 2008, and riding since before she could walk. She started the program as an excuse to combine those passions.
