Sidesword Skills Clinic- Level Up Your Freeplay

It's one thing to be able to perform an action in a drill, another thing entirely to do it in freeplay.  How do you take what you learn in class and apply it to combat where you don't know how your opponent may (or may not) react?  The sidesword is a very versatile weapon – especially when paired with a buckler.  How does one limit both their options and their opponents' actions and make tactical decisions in the heat of the moment?

On Saturday, February 28th instructor and Academie Duello's founder Devon Boorman will be teaching a sidesword workshop to help students improve their play.  In this workshop students will learn how to:
  • improve their ability to make split-second decisions
  • pick the most appropriate defences
  • find the perfect moment to strike
  • use simple multipliers to change set-play drills into freeplay practice
Students must have their Sidesword level 1 (or an equivalent from another WMA/ HEMA school) or be given the go-ahead from one of Academie Duello's head instructors before taking this workshop.
