GearCon and Victorian Martial Arts Symposium

This is where I’ll be the first weekend in July: GearCon

GEAR Con 2013 poster bartitsu

The Gaslight Explorers, Adventurers, & Romantics Convention (GEAR Con) is a celebration of Pacific Northwest steampunk and neo-Victorian creativity, taking place over three days in Portland, Oregon. Members of the public can register to meet fellow enthusiasts, attend presentations and workshops, meet authors and other steampunk community luminaries, shop for costumes and other goods, enjoy musical and variety performances, and much more. 2013′s theme is Steampunk Americana, exploring historical, technological, and socio-political what-ifs in the 19th Century United States.

2013′s GEAR Con will offer our traditional array of main events, including our variety showcase, dances, concerts, fashion show, LARPs, and the return of the Crafters’ Lab workshop space, plus some new additions:

The Prestigious Illusionists – an astounding showcase of steampunk stage magicians on Friday night — hosted by the Historical Conjurer, Professor DR Schreiber.

Victorian Martial Arts Symposium – Bartitsu workshops & clinics throughout the weekend will culminate in an all-star exhibition on Sunday afternoon — orchestrated by Academia Duellatoria.

A spacious tabletop gaming lounge (board, card, RPG, & minatures) for open play, demos, and tournaments all weekend long — sponsored by Guardian Games.
. . . plus panels and workshops by experts, talents, & creators from near and far, and musical headliners Abney Park!

July 5 to July 7 in Portland, Oregon.

I’ll be involved in too many activities to detail here, so here’s the link to the schedule page (Facebook)
