Begin your journey from Novice to Knight by learning the fundamentals of Medieval Swordplay with Instructor Greg Reimer:

Intro to Medieval Swordplay

Date: Saturday, March 16, 2013

Time: 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Description: Over the course of four hours you will learn the fundamentals of Armizare; a martial system first taught by Italian Knight Fiore dei Liberi in the 14th century. You will build confidence in unarmed combat, longsword, spear/quarterstaff, and sword and shield as you practice posture, movement, attack, defense, and fundamental strategy.

This is a hands on workshop ideal for adult beginners of all age levels and physical abilities. All the swordplay equipment required to participate is provided. At the end you will have the prerequisites required to continue your studies at Academie Duello in the Warrior Program or in our Longsword, Poleweapon, and Sword & Shield workshops.

Hone your defensive skills as you borrow techniques from great warriors of past with Director Devon Boorman:

Sword & Large Shield: Rotella, Kite and Round

Date: Saturday, March 23, 2013

Time: 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Description: Part defensive tool, part offensive extension of one's armour; the large shield affords the wielder a broad defense against the unforeseen attack and a tool that can be used to impede, attack, and control the opponent.
This workshop will focus on the sword and shield techniques of the foot soldier and armoured knight. From the Kite shield of the Norman warrior at the battle of Hastings to the round shield used by Celtic and Norse warriors alike.
Students will learn:
▪ How to maneuvre attacks around your own shield to maintain defense while attacking.
▪ How to use the shield offensively and defensively.
▪ Control and constrain with the shield.
▪ Opening up the opponent and maneuvring around large shields.
▪ Defense against other battlefield weapons such as the longsword and polearm.
Come prepared for a thorough workout for your mind and body.

Intro to Stage Combat

Time 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Description In this intensive 4-hour workshop, we’ll cover the basics of stage combat, including:
▪ Slaps
▪ Punches
▪ Chokes
▪ Push and fall
▪ Sword parries and footwork
▪ Sword thrusts and cuts
▪ Playing wounds

Anyone who performs fights for entertainment needs to know these essentials, whether you’re acting in plays or film, or performing fight demonstrations. It is also a prerequisite to starting the Basic Stage Combat Program.
