Mounted Combat Playday

stick pegging 4An opportunity to put your skills to work.  The term 'playday' usually denotes mounted games and other fun events on horseback in a semi-competitive format.  This day will include informal competitions as well as opportunities to practice mounted games, sparring and horseback archery.

Assistants on the ground are needed for these sessions.  If you are unable to participate as a rider, come out and be a squire to earn credits for future playdays!

Mounted Games -- Riding Level 1

Mounted Combat Skills

Sword DrillsTo be an effective swordsman from horseback it is necessary to hone your fighting skills from the ground and from the falsemount.  This four-week class takes place in the salle, where we work on the sword, spear and grappling skills necessary for mounted combat.  The first half hour is clinic time for you to work on areas of your choice with instructors available for guidance.  Each four-class series will cover all the material in the Green Spur checklist for Mounted Combat. Several iterations of the course will be necessary to cover material for the Blue Spur and up. Note that dates and times are not yet confirmed.

Mounted Combat

Greg vs Chris in the Green Spur TourneyTake what you've learned in Mounted Combat Skills and apply it on horseback.  This four-week series of classes is for students who have achieved at least the rank of Green Spur.  Riders are expected to be tacked up, warmed up, and ready to start drills at the beginning of class.  Classes include solo and partner exercises, mounted drills, sparring and games practice.

Sundays, 8 & 15 March, 12 & 19 March
cost: $200 for 4 classes
individual classes: $60 each, space permitting
prerequisite: Green Spur

Jennifer Landels heads up Academie Duello's Cavaliere Program. She has been swordfighting since 2008, and riding since before she could walk. She started the program as an excuse to combine those passions.
